In the spirit of saving a buck and saving space, I’ve started a blog/style challenge for myself. Let’s call it the monthly style essentials challenge. Too long? All right, I’ll keep pondering the name. In the meantime, here’s more about the challenge, which, maybe you’ll try with me?

I’m currently experiencing a career transition which will have its effects on the money flow for a little bit. As a result, I brainstormed some ways I can still stay consistent with my style and my blog on a limited budget. I settled on this challenge which involves me picking one to two key pieces that I’ve either recently purchased, or am just currently obsessed with, and styling those pieces for an entire month. The kicker is that what I style these pieces with has to come from stuff I already own.

For the remainder of January, the two items are my “Protect Her” sweater from Detroit-based boutique, DSE Detroit, along with my metallic silver boots from Urban Outfitters; both of which, I’ve already styled here.

The sweater, in particular, has been perfect to wear pre and post women’s march this past Saturday. I had the pleasure of attending the invigorating peaceful gathering, proudly sporting my “Protect Her” piece for the 4th or 5th time within a 2-week time frame, but hey, who’s REALLY counting?

Before I go, I wanted to note a few key tricks I’ve done to spice it up a bit.

First, adding texture with the chevron detail of the coat and the grey/black color blocking action happening with the jeans.

Second, adding just a hint of color with my lipstick choice and the dainty earrings.

Third, adding a fairly subtle statement piece that compliments the all black ensemble; in this case, my moon boots.

Anywho, that’s all I have, for now. Be sure to read up on my interpretation of the “Protect Her” series in my previous post featuring this sweater. Here’s my typical cheesy smile 😀
